Karen Land ID’d as Homeless Woman Killed in Watts Pedestrian Accident at Central Avenue and Imperial Highway

Watts, California (December 12, 2020) – Karen Land, 60, has been identified as the homeless woman who was struck and killed by several vehicles, including a Los Angeles County sheriff’s department patrol vehicle, on Friday morning in Watts, Los Angeles, according to the coroner’s office.
The deadly accident happened at around 6:23 a.m. in the area of Central Avenue and Imperial Highway near the Nickerson Garden.
Authorities said Land was lying in the roadway when she was first hit by the patrol vehicle that was heading westbound on Imperial Highway towards Slater Avenue.
Land was then struck by several other vehicles, and at least one of them fled the scene, the officials said.

Land was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputies stopped at the scene after the crash. There was no description of the hit-and-run driver.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
